General Motors LLC is currently recalling 10,176 U.S. vehicles that have 6.6-liter gas engines due to a short circuit that may result in a battery fire. Vehicles a part of this recall include 2021 Chevrolet Express and GMC Savanna vehicles.
According to GM spokesman Dan Flores, these vehicles have anti-rotation tabs on the positive battery cable terminals that have the potential to come into contact with a fuse block assembly attachment post, resulting in a short circuit.
This short circuit could then result in a low battery voltage warning, resulting in a dead battery or a fire in the engine compartment.
What Owners Should Do
Although General Motors is not aware of any crashes or injuries related to the recall, it’s important that owners park their vehicles outside and away from their homes and other costly structures until they have been repaired.
To see if your vehicle is included in this recall, you can visit NHTSA.gov/recalls and enter your vehicle’s identification number. If your vehicle is listed, you can take it to your nearest dealership to get the repair fixed free of charge.
