Ford Recalling Almost 32,000 Vehicles Due To Faulty Airbag

Ford Motor Company is recalling 31,867 vehicles in the United States and Canada, because the passenger side airbag my not inflate properly in the event of a crash. The affected vehicles are the 2016-2017 Ford Edge, the 2016-2017 Lincoln MKX and the 2017 Lincoln Continental.

The airbags were made by Japanese supplier, Takata Corp., but they do not have the same deadly problem that has led to various recalls of millions of Takata airbags. In those recalled airbags, they can inflate with too much force and spew shrapnel at occupants. In Ford’s recall, the airbags may not fill completely because of misaligned components. Ford said it is not aware of any accidents or injuries associated with the defect. Takata notified Ford of the potential problem after it discovered some production problems. Ford will begin notifying customers of the recall the week of March 13. Dealers will replace affected airbags for free once parts are available.
