Volkswagen recalls almost 250,000 Atlases for issue with airbag and brakes

Volkswagen is recalling over 246,000 Atlas and Atlas Cross Sport SUVs in the United States and Canada due to a wiring issue that could cause problems with the airbags, brakes and windows. Damage to the wiring could result in the airbags deploying “later than designed,” according to a report from the Nation Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

The wiring problem could also lead to other problems in the vehicle, such as the windows rolling down on their own and the electronic parking brake engaging at low speeds. There is currently no fix for the problem, according to the NHTSA report. Volkswagen will offer a reimbursement program for the recalled vehicles. The recall applies to 2019 – 2023 Volkswagen Atlas and 2020 – 2023 Atlas Cross Sport. Volkswagen will notify owners of the recalled vehicles by mail starting in May, 2022.
