Improper Wiring Can Cause Dangerous Short-Circuiting
Approximately 241,000 Honda Odyssey minivans are being recalled because of improper installation of a critical piece of interior trim. It has been discovered that this piece of trim can damage the wire harness for the third-row accessory power outlet. This damage can cause the wiring to short-circuit and heat the plastic harness cover until it catches fire. Honda has stated that it is aware of three fires caused by this issue, but that it is unaware of any injuries related to this defect.
Which Models are Affected?
Honda Odyssey minivans from the 2018, 2019, and 2020 model years are impacted. If you want to find out if your vehicle is included in the recall, visit the NHTSA website or Honda’s recall page and enter your 17-digit vehicle identification number. Honda’s number for this recall, which was slated to begin in mid-March 2020, is T6U.
What to do if Your Vehicle is Impacted
If your vehicle is affected by this recall, you can bring it to your nearest Honda dealership for free repairs or replacement of the impacted part. Mechanics will inspect the wire harness, and if it is undamaged, reroute the wire and wrap it in electrical tape. Any damaged wire harnesses will be replaced.
