Unexpected Emergency Braking
Mazda has announced a recall of more than 35,000 Mazda3 vehicles, including both sedans and hatchbacks, due to an issue with the automatic emergency braking (AEB) systems. The AEB systems have been shown to unexpectedly engage while on the road. This malfunction could potentially cause a rear-end collision from a following vehicle, so it’s important to have your Mazda3 repaired as soon as possible.
Which Cars Are Affected?
35,290 Mazda3 hatchbacks and sedans from 2019 and 2020 are included in this recall. If you are the owner of one of the affected vehicles, the automaker was obligated to inform you of this recall by mail no later than February 17, 2020. If you missed your notice or never received one, you can also reach out to Mazda customer service at 1-800-222-5500. You can also check the NHTSA website to determine if your vehicle has any open recalls.
Fixing Your Vehicle
If your car is affected by this recall, you can take your vehicle to a Mazda dealership for reprogramming. Mazda dealers will be reprogramming the problematic software controlling the AEB system at no cost to you.
