Automaker Alfa Romeo is recalling approximately 19,114 of its Giulia cars and Stelvio SUVs due to the adaptive cruise control (ACC) that may stay engaged after the driver presses the brakes. Additionally, the ACC may cause affected vehicles to hit speeds that are faster than the driver wants to go. The problem is occurring due to a software glitch that allows the cruise control feature to stay activated regardless if the brakes are used.
Affected vehicles include 2017-2019 Giulia sedans as well as 2018-2019 Stelvio SUVs. According to parent company Fiat Chrysler Automobiles (FCA), half of the impacted vehicles remain on dealer lots. There have been no reported crashes or injuries that occurred due to this issue.
The Fix
In order to get the problem fixed, vehicle owners can head to the dealer to get a software update free of charge. You can also call the FCA U.S. Recall Information Center at 800-853-1403 to see if your vehicle is affected.
