Ford Recalls 1.5 Million Ford Focus Vehicles

Ford Motor Company is recalling 1.46 million Ford Focus cars in North America due to a defect that leads to stalling. The issue is due to a defective canister purge valve that has the potential to get stuck in an open position. This could cause the fuel tank to become deformed, and, in certain situations, the defect could cause the Focus to stall and have difficulty restarting or not restart at all.

Affected vehicles include 2012-2018 model-year Ford Focus vehicles that have 2-liter GDI and 2-liter GTDI engines. As a precaution, Ford notes that customers should keep their gas tanks at least half-full until their vehicles are fixed.

There have been no reported crashes reported in connection to the defect, and Ford will repair the cars free of charge. The repair includes reprograming a powertrain module with new software and the replacement of any necessary parts, such as the canister purge valve.

If your vehicle has been impacted, Ford Motor Vehicles will notify you directly.
