Over 1 Million Ram Trucks Recalled

Approximately 1.1 million Ram pickup trucks from 2015-2017 are being recalled due to their tailgates opening unexpectedly. This means that any cargo that is being stored in the bed of the pickup truck may fall out due to the defect, leading to potential accidents.

Affected vehicles:

  • Ram 1500 light-duty pickup trucks
  • Ram 2500 heavy-duty pickup trucks
  • Ram 3500 heavy-duty pickup trucks

All of which have 5-foot-7-inch or 6-foot-4-inch beds and power locking tailgates. If you have a truck with an 8-foot bed or a truck without power locking tailgates, it is not included in this recall.

The Problem

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration notes that a tab located inside the tailgate’s power lock assembly may fractures, which leads to the tailgate opening unexpectedly. While Ram has not offered any details on the repair, it will make the repair free of charge to owners. The recall began on Sept. 14, 2018 and owners can contact Fiat Chrysler Automobiles directly at 800-853-1403 to see if their vehicle is affected.
