GM recalls 475,148 Chevy Cruzes

On June 22, 2012, General Motors announced it is recalling just about every Chevy Cruze sold in the United States, Canada and Israel to prevent the risk of engine fires. The recall affects 475,148 Cruzes, a vehicle that up until the recall had seemingly been praised by auto critics. The fires are caused when fluid drips onto a hot plastic shield below the engine. GM identified about 30 fires that could possibly be related to the issue. The recall was issued after NHTSA announced that it would be investigating the cause of fires which destroyed two 2011 Cruzes. GM has instructed Chevrolet service departments on the recall and repair. A letter will be sent to owners of the vehicles on July 11, 2012.
