GM Issues TSB for Multiple 2021 Models Due to Coolant Pipe Problem

General Motors LLC has issued a Technical Service Bulletin for several 2021 crossover models, which may have a problem affecting their coolant pipes. The coolant inlet pipe on certain vehicles may have an obstructed threaded hole for the temperature sensor. This obstruction may lead to the check engine light turning on or coolant leaks.

How is a Technical Service Bulletin (TSB) Different From a Recall?

By now, most of our readers are probably very familiar with vehicle recalls, which are issued after a safety-related problem is discovered. TSBs are issued when a company identifies a flaw in their product that does not necessarily impact the user’s safety. In this case, the results of the coolant pipe problem do not pose a danger to the driver or passengers.

What Vehicles Are Affected by This TSB?

This issue may affect vehicles already on the road as well as vehicles that are sitting on GM dealership lots. The affected models include:
  • 2021 Chevy Blazer
  • 2021 GMC Acadia
  • 2021 Cadillac XT4
  • 2021 Cadillac XT5

The Solution

Those who own vehicles that have been impacted by the TSB should bring it to a dealership for inspection. Dealers will be examining vehicles and making repairs to models which have been affected by the coolant pipe issue. Vehicles that pass a cooling system leak check will not need repairs. Vehicles that do need to be repaired may need multiple parts related to the issue replaced. GM has estimated that certified service centers should be able to make the necessary repairs in a little over 2 hours.
Important note: the TSB will expire at the end of each affected vehicles’ new vehicle warranty period.
