Ford Recall Over Potential Oil or Fuel Leak

Ford Motor Company recently announced that they will be recalling 5,645 vehicles in the United States over a potential increased risk of fire. The affected vehicles include some 2018 Ford Expedition SUV’s, 2018 F-150 pickup trucks, and 2018 Lincoln Navigator SUV’s. All of these vehicles have a 3.5-liter V-6 engine, with high-pressure fuel pumps with misaligned welds.

Essentially, the high-pressure fuel pump assembly may not have enough welds between the “pump housing and its mounting flange”. The welds can then fracture, leading to an oil or fuel leak. The higher potential for an oil or fuel leak increases the risk for fire, so it is important to see if your vehicle is one of the affected Fords.

Currently, Ford has not had any reports of any related incidents, nor has there been any fires, accidents, or injuries due to this recall.

Once you receive confirmation that your vehicle is affected, you can go to a Ford dealer for help. Dealers are instructed to replace the high-pressure fuel pump and fuel discharge tube, and the high-pressure pump and discharge tube mounting bolts, of which will be free to the customer.

To find out if your vehicle is affected, please contact the automaker at 866-436-7332 or the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s vehicle-safety hotline at 888-327-4236.
