General Motors has issued a recall for 556,399 Chevrolet and GMC pickup trucks due to an identified fire risk. Hot fumes released by the vehicles’ pretensioners may travel through an opening in the seat belt bracket and cause the carpet to catch fire. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has indicated that the driver may see or smell smoke before a flame is visible following a collision.

Specific Models Affected

The 2019 and 2020 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 and the 2019 and 2020 GMC Sierra 1500 are affected by this recall. Further affected models include the 2020 Silverado 2500, Silverado 3500, Sierra 2500, and Sierra 3500. Dealers will be responsible for sealing the opening in the seat belt bracket at no charge to the owner. Models with vinyl flooring are not included in this recall. Not every carpeted vehicle will be affected as corrective revisions were made on the assembly line. To determine if your vehicle is impacted by this recall from GM, you can visit the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s website and enter your 17-digit identification (VIN) number.
