Subaru is planning to recall 2.3 million cars due to an issue with brake light switches that are potentially linked to ignition issues. Affected vehicles include Foresters and Imprezas that were made in 2008 from 2017. Roughly 2 million of the potentially affected vehicles were sold in the United States.

The Issue

The faulty brake light switches in the affected Subaru vehicles are at risk of causing ignition issues. There are certain household chemicals found in perfumes, fabric softeners, etc. that may “create an insulating barrier on certain switches” that interferes with the correct flow of electricity. If Subaru moves forward with the recall, it will be their biggest in history; currently, the recall campaign is in its planning stages.

We will continue giving updates about this recall.
