Subaru Recall Over Rollaway Risk

A recall was announced regarding Subaru and over 27,000 vehicles potentially having an issue with the parking brake. The affected vehicles include 2010 to 2014 Legacy sedans and Outback SUV’s; the majority of the vehicles are the Outback crossovers, but Legacy sedans are also within the recall. Essentially, the electronic parking brake may not work the way it is supposed to, leading to a rollaway risk.

Specifically, in both the Legacy sedans and the Outback SUV’s, over time, parts in the vehicle that control the parking brake can crack. If these parts do crack, the parking brake may not actually engage, despite the warning light on the dash lighting up. When the parking brake does not engage, this increases the rollaway risk.

Subaru dealers will replace the electronic parking brake component assembly at no cost to consumers. If for some reason the parts are not available immediately, you will be notified once parts are available.

Currently, Subaru is not aware of any crashes or injuries related to the problem. To determine if your vehicle may be affected, please contact Subaru customer service at 844-373-6614; the recall number is WTV-81. You can also look up your vehicle identification code on the National Highway and Traffic Safety Administration’s website.
